Julie was born 1960 in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. She studied law at QIT (now Queensland University of Technology) and was admitted as a solicitor in 1984 after full-time study and 2 years articles of clerkship.
Julie has been a resident of the Gold Coast for 30 years and she received early experience in all fields of commercial law, including leasing, franchising, wills, estates, conveyancing.
She migrated into criminal law including traffic matters, domestic violence matters, sexual assault, drug offences, homes invasions, parole applications and the like in about 2008. Julie served as a duty solicitor for approximately 3 years at Coolangatta Court House. She also served as a preferred legal aid supplier in criminal matters and family law matters for a number of years. As a duty solicitor, not only do you have to make a rapid assessment of clients and their prospects, but she was expected to identify possible mental health and drug issues.
Julie believes that with a criminal law and duty lawyer background, you need the ability to think on your feet and sort through the relevant issues. While working in the criminal law field, Julie was not afraid to ask “Do you mind having a female solicitor?”. She often says, “I think that being upfront held me in good stead with criminal law clients.”
Julie’s hobbies include cooking, reading and lawn bowls.
